REDACTED Culture
Culture • Writing • Preparedness
As Gun Culture is undergoing a generational shift, the REDACTED Culture community is both evidence to this, and an example of what is coming. Out with anti-intellectualism, in with deeper understanding. As the podcast hosts thought leaders from all walks of life, the community continues to build itself up through local events, and national conversation. Gun Culture is not longer limited to the gun safe, but instead is reaching into overlanding, homesteading, and community responsibility.

16 December Range Day and Clean Up Report

On Saturday, the 16th of December, roughly 20+ volunteers arrived on location and began collecting trash left in the ravine at a popular shooting location off of Mount Lemon Highway in Coronado National Forest. In the span of 2 hours, the volunteers pulled roughly a half-dumpster’s worth of cardboard, bottles, cans, pallets, tires, and loose metal from microwaves, car parts, and makeshift targets. The Forest Service was notified ahead of time and thanked us for putting together the clean up and looks forward to coordinating further for future clean up operations. Coronado National Forest Service Member mentioned publishing a brief article on the clean up on their social media pages.

Notable Donations:
In addition to providing $500 worth of ammunition for the event, Finance And Maneuver sent some of their crew down to help coordinate and take photos of the event.
SNG Tactical provided water, gatorade, trash bags, and a first aid kit to support cleanup efforts.
Murphy’s Guns, SNG Tactical, and The Hub - Tucson, distributed flyers, of which various volunteers identified to be how they learned about the event.
One attendee donated $20 in cash, which was spent to refurb the Steel targets used in the event. (New Carriage Bolts and paint)

Sustains:
Sustenance:
Water, Gatorade, Snacks will be provided. In addition to hydration, they brought a welcoming touch to the event.
First Aid:
Due to the types of trash being collected, the volunteers were requested to bring gloves. While not all volunteers brought their own, only one needed to utilize the first aid kit for a small laceration. We are thankful to SNG Tactical for providing the kit, and will incorporate it into further range clean up operations.
Guns + Shooting
The community came together to clean up the place, but we were able to have a good time trying out some firearms for the first time. This produced an ideal environment where people of a wide range of experience could all get together and contribute, with some using AGM Global night vision and thermal optics for the first time. Volunteers shot the Palmetto State Armory JAKL and Sabre-10, getting first hand experience with the performance of both platforms, familiarizing themselves with the Vortex Razor HD Gen II 1-6, Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22, American Defense Manufacturing Recon and Delta Mounts, Lead and Steel Pandora-3 MRDS, and AGM Global StingIR with its new Flip-to-Side Mount. The community driven environment led to discussions on each of the items, as well as their demonstration. Shooters were able to not only familiarize with each of them, but observe their performance over a demanding schedule of fire. Maintenance report on items of note listed below.
Improve:
More Advanced Warning:
The attendees mentioned that, if they had known about the event sooner, they would have been able to invite more people along. Some learned of the event the day of from flyers at Murphys or SNG, others through word of mouth, and some through Social Media.
Better Coordination with the Forest Service.
Grateful for what we have done, the forest service would like to coordinate with the next clean up by bringing their trash collection vehicles to the location at the time of the event.
Shooting Portion:
Provide optional training and competitions for the volunteers, that way we can encourage a safe and capable shooting culture in the community.
More Trash Bags.
We went through 3 boxes.

Equipment Performance, Wear, and Tear
AR-550 Targets made by shootsteel.com took sustained fire from 9mm, 5.56, and .308, resulting in some pitting and the loss of both carriage bolts, which was expected. After maintenance, they are still serviceable with some warp visible. Both Targets were shot with “Green Tip.”
Palmetto State Armory JAKL
~500 rounds fired, all suppressed, no malfunctions related to reliability. Gas Setting not adjusted throughout the day.
No notable zero shift.
No shooters mentioned heat build up, RO’s observed some after long strings of fire., within acceptable limits.
Began running a little sluggish around the 360-round mark (12 mags)
Field remedied with oil, performance improved.
Despite suppressed, no one had mention or complaint about gas blowback in the shooter’s face.
After-Range Cleaning: Considerably less Carbon in receiver than what is common in DI AR-15’s used in similar conditions.
Trigger Group required no cleaning.
Small buildup of material at front side of ejection port - annotated.
Cleaning time: 30 minutes. No major wear on moving parts.
Vortex RAZOR HD 1-6 GEN II
Shooters unfamiliar with the optic noted its clarity, intuitively adjusted it to different magnifications without guidance.
Shooter’s first comments were often “that’s like cheating” or “It’s dead on.” Even young/new shooters weren’t fishing for the eyebox.
The unit used was purchased in 2016, still performs like a champ.
AGM Global StingIR and Flip-to-Side Mount
Optic and mount was removed and then re-mounted just before use, resulting in some zero shift requiring the shooter to aim just below the target at 50 meters. Crisp image maintained throughout the course of the day (4 hours continual use). No notable zero-shift throughout the day from initial sampling. Potential remedy: tighten the ADM FTS mount 1/8th turn tighter, to “bite” a little more into the rail.
Users noted at how clearly they could pick up the target (steel at distance).
American Defense Manufacturing Delta Mount (with DRC and interface for ACRO)
Maintained Zero throughout the course of fire. Users noted the ability to mount the MRDS at the 10, 12, and 2 positions. With it mounted at the 12, users noted the low profile while still remaining viable when used for passive aiming with Night Vision.
Lead-and-Steel Pandora PB-3
Used in daylight by more experienced shooters.
Excellent refresh rate.
Noted the larger box made for more generous use in daylight even when mounted on the front end of an LPVO.
Note: A SIG P320 with the Tan PB-3 was made available to inquiring attendees.

Palmetto State Armory Sabre-10 (M110 Clone-ish).
Estimated Round Fired: 170 rounds Aguilla .308 Win, 150 Grain, in consistent 20-round strings.
Rifle Maintained Zero, with shooters effectively engaging both near (50 meters) and far (85 meters) throughout the day. MOA of firearm to be assessed in the future.
No Performance Issues: Firearm was oiled before use, and never required maintenance throughout the day. No failures to extract. No failures to feed.
First Inspection: some carbon leakage on the front end of the Gas Block from use.
This was some shooter’s first tim shooting an AR-10 / 308 rifle. All left pleased in the platform.
Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5-22
Shooters of various experience levels intuitively used the optic, and noted at the image clarity.
Admin: When choosing the next Range Clean up, we will be looking for an opportunity to “stretch the legs” of both optic and the firearm it is mounted on.
American Defense Manufacturing Delta Mount
User Error: By the end of the day, host noticed minor shift back and forth at where the mount attaches to the rifle. Not able to quantify effect on accuracy. Will need to tighten. All screws holding the optic maintained tightness.

Conclusion:
Working ICW with Unbroken Co, REDACTED LLC and volunteers successfully executed their first Range Day and clean up, resulting in recognition from local public services. Volunteers of various ages, backgrounds, and experience levels met together, including spontaneous additions, without conflict or injuries, providing valuable community feedback. Noteworthy comments include “finally something in Tucson for the community,” and “I didn’t know what to expect, but glad I came.” Firearms featured were introduced to volunteers and exceeded expectations. Donors recognized publicly, and thanked. Further Social Media announcements TBD.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to build community in-person. We are already looking at scheduling the next event in late Q-1 of 2024.
